Getting Started
Getting started
Add your domain in two steps, then verify it on the domain page and send your first pages to Bing.
Raylit finds the pages on your website and pushes new and changed ones to Bing through IndexNow, so ChatGPT, Copilot and Perplexity can discover and cite them sooner.
Adding a domain is a two-step form: Enter Domain, then Complete. Verifying ownership and choosing how submissions start happen afterwards, on the domain page, not in that form.
1. Enter your domain
Open Add Domain in the sidebar. Setup Progress shows two steps: Enter Domain and Complete.
Enter your website's address, like example.com. You can paste a full URL: Raylit keeps only the host.
Add the host your website actually lives on. If example.com redirects to www.example.com, add www.example.com, because IndexNow reads the key file from the exact host you submit for.
2. Complete
Submit the domain. Setup shows Domain Added Successfully! and tells you the domain is ready for crawling and monitoring. Raylit starts the first crawl right away and keeps crawling it daily. Verification is not part of this form. Open the domain to prove you own it before pages are sent to Bing.
Verify on the domain page
IndexNow only accepts pages for a domain that proves it owns it, by hosting a small text file. On the domain page, press Verify domain. The dialog is titled Verify domain ownership and shows:
- File name: your key followed by
.txt, for example3f7c…e1.txt. - File content: the key, and nothing else. A trailing newline is fine.
- Key file address: where the file must be served, at the root of your domain, such as
https://example.com/3f7c…e1.txt.
Upload the file so that address returns HTTP 200 directly, without redirecting, then press Recheck. Raylit runs three checks in order:
- Domain accessible: your server answered.
- Verification file created: the address returned the key file, after a redirect that stays on this host, or after a 301 or 302 to this domain's hosted key URL. Any other redirect fails, and the error says which.
- Key verification: the response contains only the key.
Until the key is verified Raylit also rechecks it every hour on its own. See Hosting the key file for common platforms, Verify with a redirect when the host cannot serve a file, and auth-gated sites if unknown paths redirect to a login page.
Choose how submissions start
The first time the key passes, the domain page opens Configure Bing submissions. Nothing is sent to IndexNow until you answer it:
- Auto submit to IndexNow: when on, new and changed pages found by each crawl are sent automatically. When off, they wait as pending for you to submit them by hand. You can change this later in the domain settings.
- Submit initial pages? Choose whether the pages found so far are sent now, or only pages that are new or changed from here on.
That's it. From now on Raylit crawls the domain on your plan's schedule and keeps Bing up to date. Read How crawling works to understand what each crawl does, and IndexNow and Bing submissions to follow what gets sent.
